The stainless steel used for the blades of the OPINEL 12C27 MOD knives is an optimized grade to be able to guarantee both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical characteristics. The blade offers excellent sharpness and high resistance to abrasion (wear), allowing it to withstand regular contact with hard materials such as chisels, metals, even ceramics before re-sharpening is necessary. Stainless steel has the advantage of requiring no special maintenance under normal conditions of use, unlike carbon steel. However, the blade may reach its limits when placed in prolonged contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent, etc.).
A story of more than a century...
Durable, simple, practical, the simplest folding knife that exists today was created at the end of the 19th century in a small mountain village in the French province of Savoy.
